I apologize. I didn't realize you were speaking of Witchers. Not that I have ever met one but I understand they do important work, even if their reputation precedes them. But I have learned reputations can be deceptive.
Wei Wuxian. The son of a servant but fostered by a great family, and considered one of the most gifted young masters in our lands. He stood against everyone and sacrificed the life he knew to protect those who couldn't protect themselves.
It's all good then, don't worry. It's just that Geralt does talk to his horse Roach a lot and some folks sometimes say really terrible things about him that aren't true.
Reputation is complicated, more so when people don't get the full picture. They learn that some people had been killed and miss the fact those very same people might have been hurting others or causing disasters.
He is noble in my eyes, though not considered so at home. He is much like your Witchers, I suppose, in that his leaders find his powers convenient when they can make use of them but fear and scorn him for them the rest of the time. And yes, I consider him a friend, a very dear friend.
You seem to be very fond of your Witcher friend as well, and protective. He is lucky to have you.
They do sound similar. It's so unfair the way they're mistreated, especially about the 'convenient powers' you mentioned. As if they're good enough to slay monsters and stop evildoers but once that's done then they're suddenly too brutish or scary to be part of the celebrations.
Ah well, thanks. He's got some trouble with the F word but he's a softie under all those layers of grumpiness and annoyance.
I like it better when people are blunt. Courtesies can't be trusted. Where I come from, the people who pride themselves on their courtesy are the most false.
It has been a very long time since I got to talk to a proper artist, or enjoy the arts. My Sect Leader didn't care much for such things in the past years.
I am also familiar with that kind of behaviour, sadly it's inevitable the closer you get to court or someone in power. Honest people tend to lose their heads really quickly.
Oh that's a shame. The arts are what makes living worthwhile, they inspire the soul. Your skills are pretty much an art too. A sect...?
I hadn't expected it to be different in your lands but it's disappointing all the same.
A cultivation sect. They are the groups who train people in the cultivation powers we have, which let us do things like flying on swords or using flute music to appease restless ghosts. The founder's own clan inherits leadership among their own line over the generations. In the end, it's not very different from your lords, I guess. Some of them rule like kings while others only see their sects as monster hunters. My sect's leader considered himself an emperor. The others disagreed.
Little sad but where there's injustice, there's always people who will raise against it too. So can see both the worst and best of people the closer you get to the top.
That does sound a bit like what the witches do in Aretuza, it's a magical academy. But flying on swords? That's new. How does it work? Do you need to throw the sword and then jump into it? Don't people cut themselves? Oh, I can tell now that there were troubles with your sect leader. Are you safe, though? These sort of messes always end with innocent people suffering.
Many innocents paid with their lives, yes. The victors weren't any kinder to us than our people had been to them. In the end, our survivors realized we had to leave and start over in faraway places. There is nothing left for us at home, and staying would have only doomed us and everyone who tried to protect us.
Are you far away from home? I would think a bard has to travel far, too.
And no, I don't need to throw my sword. You just stand on it. I guess it takes good balance, especially when you are high up where the winds are strong. I could take you flying sometime?
There's never victors in wars, only those who get to decide what's right or wrong once things end. And they're not always fair. Quite saddening, the world is a too harsh place. But I believe that gives us more reason to try and make it better.
I am. Due to my profession, I keep walking the continent and I prefer that over staying in one place bored out of my mind and letting the contempt about the problems of the world grow. I like to be when the adventure is, to meet new people, to understand their struggles. Staying idle is difficult for me.
Uh, I'll have to ask Geralt if he's heard about that. Ah, really? I'd love that!
Then I'll take you flying, it's a promise. Start honing your balance.
It's strange, my life has been traveling, meeting new people and places for years now but if I had the choice, I would best like to live a quiet life at home surrounded by my family. I never wished for anything else. [ But she will never be able to return, returning would be a death sentence. ]
I might be traveling constantly but I can understand that feeling. Being able to settle and not having to worry about those who care about getting in danger makes a big difference.
You could visit me, I don't think anybody would bother you or your family here. You had a brother...?
Yes. When we all scattered we couldn't travel together, we would have been too easily recognized together. Everybody knew we would never separate if we could help it.
I miss him. I hope I will see him again soon. He will know to find me when I call.
That makes sense it does sound safer. Sorry that you had to part ways, though, that's never easy.
He can heard you from a distance? I know some witches in my world can talk with their thoughts and use that mind reading magic but it's not that common.
I'm not actually certain I will be able to call him. We never had the chance to test it, certainly not at such distance. But our friend could call him and I hope that I can do it, too, and that the distance doesn't matter when spiritual energy is involved.
[ She just... really needs to believe that. ]
There would be other ways to call him, too. We have ways of sending messages, I could use my powers on a bird and send it out. But calling him with the flute would be most reliable at such distance.

Do you hunt monsters, too?

Me? Oh Melitele, no. I'm allergic to violence, I leave it to the professionals. Ni, what I am is an artist, a minstrel...I sing and compose.
